Fijian Arts

If you’ve visited Fiji, you’ll recognise the colours of our land which we’ve embraced in our branding.

Did you know the Fijian art and craft of Tapa cloth uses the coconut?

The finished cloth is called Masi, and it has a symbolic and long-standing history in Fiji as its used in special occasions and ceremonies.

The midrib of coconuts is used for the stencil part of the process. These stencils are made from the front midrib of the coconut and arranged into a pattern. Paint is then used onto the sheet in a decorative storytelling fashion. If you get the chance in Fiji - make sure you find an opportunity to watch this process.
